If you are new to dog training, you may not know that there is a technique to teach your dog to lay down. There are many different reasons why dogs behave the way they do. In this article I will identify the lay down behavior and teach dog training techniques to help correct any issues you may be having with your dog laying down most of the time.
When most dogs are lying down, it is because they have nothing to do. They are just sitting there or sleeping. To get your dog to start moving around you need to use the command to move around. For example, if you command your dog to sit and your dog just sits there, you should command him to get up. This command should be given while your dog is still in his sitting position.
After your dog has started moving around you should change the command from sit to stay. This command requires your dog to remain in one spot. You do this by putting your hand right under your dog’s belly. You then move your hand away from your dog until you feel his weight on the ground. Then you say, stay. After giving this command a couple times your dog will begin to understand what you want him to do.
Another great training technique for when your dogs are laying their down is to teach them to lie down on command then jump up on you. This is a good technique because your dogs will learn how to stay low and not jump on people. You can also teach your dogs to just lay down on command then jump up on you. This can be done by first bringing them to a sit and then you ask them to stand still until you give the command to jump up on you.
The third technique is to use the command “down” on your dogs every time they are about to poop. Do it consistently each day until they have learned it. It will take quite some time but you should be able to teach them this command eventually. After your dogs have become familiar with this behavior, you can start to vary the command that you are using. Start off using “down” and then vary it to “stay”, “come”, or “here” depending on what your dogs are learning.
Sometimes dogs just need to lie down for a nap or for a while. This is when you may need to get creative with training techniques. For example you could take your dog outside and tell him to lie down. Praise your dog when he obeys and reward him again when he starts to lie down. Eventually your dog will lie down when you tell him to.
One other training technique that you can try is to do your dog a whole bunch of sit or stay commands while telling him to stop or lie down. Be sure that you have treats handy so your dog will learn that when he obeys these commands he gets rewarded with a treat. Try this technique for about a month and be patient with your dog. You will be surprised at how quickly your dog will pick up the new technique.
Using these simple techniques to teach your dog to lay down will make you and your dog’s life a lot easier. Remember, dogs are very smart and by doing consistent training techniques you can teach them to do anything. Just remember to always reward good behavior and never resort to punishing your dog for bad behavior.
